Liquore Strega – The Witch

Liquore Strega2The name Strega, a popular proprietary liqueur produced in Campania, is Italian for “witch”. The liqueur got its name also because it is supposedly based on a witches brew. The legend  has it that witches disguised as maidens first made this liqueur in the city of Benevento. The aphrodisiac love-potion, guaranteed to unite forever any pair of lovers who drink it in unison. You have been warned!

The Strega legendary and magic taste comes from a slow and secret distillation of all natural ingredients. There are only two people in the world who know the exact proportion between the ingredients of a recipe handed on from father to son for five generations. Made and marketed since 1860, nothing much has changed. Saffron gives Strega its golden colour, and its unaltered perfume is a perfect and unique fragrance of several herbs coming from all over the world. The fruit base is a citrus blend with different botanical herbs making it slightly similar to yellow Chartreuse. It is slightly sweet, semi-viscous, and has a bold, complex taste.

How To Serve

Strega is considered a digestivo, meant for drinking after meals. You can enjoy it neat, but it is more appealing serve chilled or over ice.  It is a lovely accompaniment with freshly cracked nuts at the end of a meal.

This Halloween bewitch your palate with a delicious Witch Brew cocktail.

Cheers!
