Flips are one of the oldest drinks around, and were popular in England in the mid 17th century. It was originally served hot, and made from beer or rum with the addition of sugar, and heated with a red-hot iron. In the novel Moby Dick, Ishmael character praise its virtues. When an egg was added to the recipe, it became the  Yard of Flannel. Today, Flips are served cold and are most often served in the morning or at bed time because of their soothing character. A Brandy Flip combines brandy, half an egg, sugar, a bit of cream, and a pinch of cinnamon.
