Ernest Hemingway’s Death In The Afternoon cocktail shares the name of his book. The cocktail was also featured in the 1935 book So Red The Nose, a collection of celebrity cocktail recipes. Hemingway’s own instructions are: “Pour one jigger of Absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced Champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly.” Here’s a selection of absinthe substitution.
