Kir – Wine Cocktail

Kir is a popular French apéritif made from dry white wine and flavoured with Cassis. Originilly called Blanc-Cassis, the drink is now called Kir after Canon F. Kir, mayor of Dijon, Burgundy who is credited to have invented it. Mayor Kir offered the drink at receptions to visiting delegations. Aligoté wine, a lesser white wine of Burgundy, is usually used. Today, various white wines are used throughout France according to the region and the whim of the barkeeper. It is usually served in a standard white wine glass. This libation is an official IBA (international bartender association ) cocktail.
