The Macuã is a fruity highball made with white rum, guava, and citrus fruit juices. It has been the national drink of Nicaragua since 2006 when it won a contest sponsored  in part by Flor de Caña, a Nicaraguan rum maker. It was created by Dr. Edmundo Miranda Saenz, a pediatrician from Granada, and named after a tropical bird native to the country.
