Manhattan – Martini

Ingredients

2 oz Rye Whisky
1/2 oz Sweet vermouth
2 Drops Angostura bitters

Convert Units

Stir & Strain

1. Fill a mixing glass with ice.

2. Add all the ingredients.

3. Stir.

4. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

5. The classic Manhattan requires a cherry for garnish.

Variation

Substitute the rye whisky with bourbon. This cocktail can be made sweet ( extra sweet vermouth ), perfect ( haft sweet & dry vermouth ), and dry ( few drops of sweet vermouth ).

The Manhattan martini is the quintessential mix of rye whisky and sweet vermouth with Angostura bitters. Cocktail historians suggest that the drink originated at the Manhattan Club in New York city in the early 1870s. After the Martini, Manhattan became the most popular pre-dinner drink in the United Sates; it also formed the foundation of many other cocktails. Traditionalists insist that a Manhattan be made with rye whisky. However, if you are paying for you cocktail, have it the way you like it.
