Martinez is a classic cocktail, the predecessor of today’s Martini, and the link to the Manhattan. The exact origin is unknown, but the Martinez was mentioned in  the book ‘The Bon Vivants Companion’  by Jerry Thomas in 1887. Many stories claim that Julio Richelieu created the drink in 1874 for a gold miner, and that the drink is named after the California town, Martinez. Historically this recipe was made with Old Tom Gin, a sweetened gin style. Martinez is a tasty, boozy cocktail that Manhattan or Martini fans should try.
