The Pegu Club is a classic cocktail. This drink is a delectable mixture of gin, curaçao, fresh lime juice, and Angostura bitters. It was served at the first Pegu club, a British hot spot in Rangoon, Burma (now called Yangon, Myanmar) in the 1920s. Pegu is a Burmese river. The recipe appeared in the Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930 by Harry Craddock and was called The Pegu Club Cocktail. However, it appears to be first listed in “Barflies and Cocktails” by Harry McElhone of the famous Harry’s New York Bar in Paris. Today, the cocktail’s trail to the modern Pegu Club in New York city’s SoHo neighborhood. The amount of gin varies from a recipe to another, and we used Cointreau instead of curaçao.
