Sazerac – Classic

Ingredients

4 Drops/Dash of Pernod
3 Drops Peychaud's bitters
2 oz Kentucky Bourbon
A scoop of ice

Build

1. Fill a rock glass with ice and put it a side.

2. Take a large Old Fashioned glass.

3. Soak a sugar cube with bourbon and put it in the glass.

4. Add bourbon, Peychaud’s bitters, and a bit of ice.

5. Stir for 10 seconds.

6. Discard the ice from the rock glass.

7. Coat the side of the rock glass with Pernod, and discard excess.

8. Strain the content of the Old Fashioned glass into the rock glass.

9. Wring a lemon twist on top, and drop it in the glass.

EXECUTION NOTE – Make sure your rock glass is well chilled.

The Sazerac is a classic cocktail from New Orleans, and it is distinguished by its preparation method. The creation of the Sazerac has been credited to Antoine Peychaud, the Creole apothecary who moved to New Orleans, in the french Quarter, in the early part of the 19th century.
