The Sloe Sloppy Joe martini is a curiously delightful, creamy liqueur-based cocktail. Looking deceptively gentle in the glass, fruit liqueurs give a burst o juicy tanginess that is far more powerful than fresh fruit. What is in this fun cocktail? Coffee liqueur, coffee, Sloe Gin liqueur, cream, and icing sugar. Sloe gin is made from the fruit of a shrub called the blackthorn (sloe) bush. This rich, deep red liqueur is made by steeping sloe berries in spirit (usually gin) and added sugar. Blackthorn was long associated with witchcraft, and it is said that witches’ wands and staffs were made using blackthorn wood.
