Whether cocktail sprang from stable or tavern, by the 1800s it was part of the American language. The Tom & Jerry hot drink was created in the early 1850s by Jerry Thomas at the Planter’s House hotel in St- Louis. The Tom & Jerry was a holiday favourite for a century. Modern time, novelty concoction, and convenience killed it off. Our version is a modern recipe that doesn’t require fiddling with the egg, and represent current tastes. NOTE: eating raw egg is safe, just be sure that your egg is fresh. We used granulated sugar instead of superfine sugar ( also called Baker’s sugar ).
