Liqueurs: Chartreuse

Chartreuse

Chartreuse is a French liqueur from Voiron, south-eastern France.  The recipe of Chartreuse has been a guarded secret for centuries. The recipe was first given to the monks in 1605 by a captain of the French King HenryIV. The liqueur is made of 130 different herbs, and  is available in two varieties: yellow which is sweeter, and green which is stronger.
