Daiquiri – Zesty & Refreshing

The Daiquiri is a classic cocktail made famous by Constante Ribalagua of La Florida restaurant, Havana, Cuba, at the first half of the twentieth century. Also, Ernest Hemingway popularized the drink when he consistently ordered double Daiquiris at La Florida bar, where he became known as Papa Dobles (father doubles). This classic originated from the iron mines in the Cuban town of Daiquiri when American mining engineers drank a mixture of the local rum, lime juice, and sugar to ward off tropical fevers. There are two styles of preparation. The mixture can be shaken and strained, or it can be be mixed with ice in a blender. Although the ingredients and proportions vary in different recipes, the predominant tastes should be rum and lime juice.
